Continuing in our series of comparing door costs we are now going to delve deeper into the costs of bifold doors. There are many aspects for you to consider when looking for your perfect bifold door – What materials should I use? What colour should I have? What type of glass would best suit my needs? Do I want a flush threshold? And the main reason why we are here – how much is it going to cost me? Is it going to fit within my budget?

To help you with your planning, let’s have a look at what can impact the costs of your new bifold door for your self-build or home renovation…

The materials you opt for –

Aluminium – whilst traditionally there was a view that aluminium isn’t thermally efficient, this is simply not the case anymore! Our aluminium is a great insulator and offers a modern, sleek look. Great for both period and contemporary properties.

Timbertimber is a great sustainable material, and will add warmth and cosiness to your home! Not to mention its fabulous thermal properties.  Our timber is also very low-maintenance thanks to our microporous paint system, you won’t have to worry about repainting.

The type of glazing used –

Double-glazed laminated glass with an argon gas-filled cavity and a Low-E coating – this is our factory-fitted standard glass. It boasts super strong shatterproof glass and high security, not to mention fantastic thermal efficiency.

Low-E coating – Low-E stands for ‘low thermal emissivity’ which means this glass is able to reflect radiant infrared energy. What does this mean? Very efficient and clever bifold doors that keep radiant heat from indoors in, while infrared heat from the sun during summer is reflected away keeping it cooler inside. Woop woop.

Triple-glazed toughened glass with an argon gas-filled cavity and a Low-E coating – If you live near a busy road then this glass upgrade might be ideal for your property. Featuring three panes of glass this option gives you not just fantastic thermal insulation but better acoustic insulation too, blocking out pesky road noise!

Solar Control glass – All of our products are available with this glass which can helo to reduce the G-Value which is a unit of measurement for UV rays that are able to penetrate through the glass from outside whilst keeping all that precious heat in! Making this a particularly great option for south-facing homes.

Low-Iron glass – Got a north-facing home? This type of glass is ideal for you! This glass increases the solar gain of your property by letting the sun’s energy and heat into your home, saving you money on those ever-rising heating bills in the winter and increasing the overall energy rating of your doors and windows too.

Double glazed toughened glass with 6mm thick panes – This extra thick glass is great to be used in bifold doors. With less flex than other glass and more durability, it’s a great solid option for your new bifold door. This 6mm option also provides extra acoustic properties over the standard 4mm pane – again – great if you live near a road or busy area.

The colour –

Whilst many will opt for a classic black, grey or white, there’s also plenty of opportunity to get creative with our bifold doors available in any RAL colour! How about a cosy cream, or perhaps a chic sage? The choice is yours. Alternatively, you could opt for a wood stain, to give your home that added warmth that timber brings.

Flush threshold –

Adding a flush threshold to your bifold door not only makes the threshold look a little bit more aesthetically pleasing it also takes away that little trip hazard for when the doors are wide open and the kids are charging in and out. Or maybe when you’re carrying out that tray of drinks to your guests.

Configuration –

A great advantage of choosing bifold doors is that they can be configured in a number of different ways depending on your requirements. Of course, you just need to bear in mind that the bigger or the more complicated configurations can add to the cost of the product and installation. You can find out more about our bifold door configurations here.

Installation –

Here at Kloeber, we offer a fully warrantied installation service which is carried out by highly trained installation teams, or, the other option is to use your own preferred contractor. To assist, we provide full, detailed fitting and adjustment instructions with all of our products and provided they’re fitted correctly the full Kloeber warranty will apply. We always recommend that our aluminium products are fitted by someone with experience in doing this as they’re not as simple to fit as our other ranges.
