We’ve all been spending a little more time than usual at home over the past few months, and this time may have had you thinking about some home improvements! A change of colour scheme, new kitchen or perhaps even a complete overhaul of your layout…
Glazing is one of the most important features of a home, it determines the natural light in the house and of course, affects the layout and general feel of a property. Many homeowners currently undergoing renovations or extensions are seeking larger, open-plan living with the help of contemporary bifold doors, but there’s more options to choose from than just the popular bifold door!
French doors are more classic in design, but can also work fabulously in modern properties too – they’re a real versatile glazing solution and are not to be overlooked when making decisions relating to your home’s glazing.
Unsure on which design will best suit your self-build, home renovation or extension? Let’s weigh up the two options!
Starting with bespoke bifold doors…
A strong and solid choice, bifold doors are extremely popular with all styles of property from period cottages, to sleek modern abodes.
What material can I get bifold doors in?
The good news is, here at Kloeber, we’re experts in more than just one material! With our bifold doors, you can choose from timber or aluminium, and thanks to this, we’re able to guide you through choosing the perfect bifold doors for your home. If you’re looking for a warm and traditional feel, then our timber is simply the perfect match. For a more modern and minimalist style, then our aluminium might just be the best option for you.
What bifold door configurations are available?
With the exception of our EuroFold doors, all of our bifolds are made-to-measure for your project and available in a wide variety of configurations such as all folding to the right or to the left, and folding both ways, opening in the middle.
Are bifold doors thermally efficient?
Yes, absolutely! Our bifold doors provide market-leading energy efficient properties and high performance. Thanks to their low U-values, you can reduce your carbon footprint and hopefully lower those winter heating bills too – a win win.
Are your bifold doors eco-friendly?
Yes! Here at Kloeber, all of our timber is FSC certified, but what does this mean?
The FSC or ‘Forest Stewardship Council’ is an international non-profit organisation that is dedicated to promoting responsible forestry, and they ensure that the highest levels of environmental and social standards are met. Therefore, when you purchase timber doors and windows with us, you can be safe in the knowledge that it comes from a sustainable source.
Opting for aluminium? As this is a largely recycled material, it won’t end up sitting in landfill for years to come, so our aluminium is just as eco-friendly as our timber.
Do you offer made-to-measure bifold doors?
Yes, we do! As mentioned above, if you’re looking for bespoke, made-to-measure bifold doors, you’ve come to the right place! Our KustomFold range offers flexible design choices and lots of configuration options and, our timber KustomFold bifolds are even Secured By Design accredited!
What colours can I choose from?
The possibilities are endless when it comes to choosing the colour of your bifold doors as you can select from any RAL colour or choose from a number of wood stains. Whilst many of our customers prefer to stick with the popular black, grey and wooden colour options, we do love to see a pop of colour in more unusual homes!
Are bifold doors secure?
It’s understandable to be concerned with the security of any access point to your home, but you can rest easy because all of our bifold doors are highly secure. The master door has a multi-point locking mechanism with hook bolts, and the intermediate doors have bolts at the top and bottom.
It’s fair to say bifold doors are a really fantastic option for any home, with their ability to flood your property with natural light, open your space and integrate your outdoor areas with your interior.
But, perhaps you’d prefer our French doors? If bifold doors aren’t suited to your project or personal taste, why not consider going French…c’est chic.
Let’s take a look at French doors
Why French doors?
Traditionally thought of as a feature for older properties, French doors are now just as popular with modern houses as they are period homes. Their timeless charm and elegance will elevate any property and thanks to the high ratio of glass, you can enjoy that morning sunlight or evening sunset as it floods into your living space.

What material are French doors available in?
As we mentioned earlier, we’re experts in more than one material here at Kloeber, and our French doors are available in not only timber and aluminium, but our alu-clad composite material too. This offers homeowners and self-builders a great amount of choice and enables us to help you choose the perfect material for your doors.
Do you make bespoke French doors?
Yes, in fact, all of our French doors are made-to-measure! Our team will work with you to provide a bespoke solution that perfectly fits the space available in your home.
And what configurations are available for French doors?
Our French doors can be made to open inwards or outwards, with the master door on either the left or right hand side – the decision is up to you!
What colour can I buy my bespoke French doors in?
Likewise, with our bifold doors, you can choose from any RAL colour and a number of wood stains. You can go for a traditional fresh white look, a more industrial-inspired dark grey, or even baby pink if you fancy it!
Just look at these French doors in a fabulous dark grey, creating a really bright and comfortable space to enjoy.
Are French doors secure?
Yes, as with all of our doors, they are made with a high-security multi-point locking system so our French doors are super secure.
Are French doors energy efficient?
Yes, our French doors offer fantastic energy-efficient insulation properties. Like with our bifold doors, their low U-values retain heat in the colder months, which means not only can you enjoy reduced heating bills, you’ll be reducing your impact on the environment too.
