Are you a self-builder or home improver? Deciding on the best doors for your home can be a challenging task, with so many great options available, making the perfect decision for your property can feel a little daunting.

So, we’re here to help!

Today we’re taking a closer look at two of our fantastic glazing solutions – French and sliding doors. Two popular choices among our customers, with both styles boasting a number of advantages.

Let’s start by looking at our made-to-measure French doors.

French vs Sliding Doors – Pros & Cons

French doors

Think French doors are just for period properties? Think again. Whilst our bespoke French doors add a touch of sophistication and elegance to a period home, they also work with more contemporary properties too.

Just like this stunning thatched cottage extension, where old meets new…doesn’t it look great?

So, what about the material?

Our French doors are available in three brilliant materials. We have our FSC certified, sustainable timber, sleek aluminium or the best of both worlds with our alu-clad. If you’re after a more traditional feel, wooden French doors are a fantastic option, or if modern minimalist living is more your thing, our slick aluminium French doors will look great.

As we’re experts in all three materials, we can give you a helping hand for choosing the best fit for your project. Why not get in touch?

And the colours available?

You can select from any RAL colour or a number of wood stains, the possibilities are endless…

Are French doors thermally efficient?

Absolutely! Our French doors offer excellent insulation and energy efficient properties. Thanks to their low U-values, they work to retain the heat in the colder months, creating a comfortable living space to enjoy all year round.

Are your French doors made-to-measure?

All of our French doors are created bespoke for your project. We will work with you, or your project manager, to design French doors that perfectly fit the size and design of your home. Our French doors can be made to open inwards or outwards, with the master door on either the left- or right-hand side.

And, are they secure?

Yes, all Kloeber doors boast high security with a multi-point locking system, so you don’t need to worry about this.

Any cons?

French doors are a timeless style, and suit all types of properties from period to modern, but, if your main objective is to increase natural light in the home, you may wish to look at a door with more minimal sightlines, such as our slimline sliding doors…

Sliding doors

Sliding doors are the perfect solution for flooding your home with beautiful, natural light. Our popular ÜberSlide sliding door is our slimmest style yet – offering minimal 20mm sightlines for unbeatable views of your outdoor space.

If you’re looking for that ‘barely there’ look, then sliding doors are a great option. Let’s take a closer look…

What material are sliding doors available in?

When it comes to sliding doors, we tend to stick with aluminium for that contemporary feel, but our KustomSlide is also available in composite alu-clad. Enjoy the best of both worlds with beautifully engineered timber on the inside and aluminium on the out!

Do sliding doors offer high performance?

Yes, indeed! Our sliding doors work to retain heat in the winter and will keep your home comfortably cool in the summer months. Thanks to their low U-values, they’re also a ‘green’ choice and will help to not only reduce your heating bill, but your carbon footprint too.

Are they as secure as French and bifold doors?

Yes, even our slimmest sliding door, the ÜberSlide, offers the highest security thanks to its advanced technology and electronic locking system.

What properties do sliding doors suit best?

Sliding doors are extremely versatile and suit any style of home, whether it’s a period cottage looking to let in the natural light, or a modern minimalist self-build.

What configurations are available?

Our sliding doors are made-to-measure, and available in a variety of configurations with 2,3 or 4 tracks and up to 6 sliding panels.

Any cons?

Sliding doors are a fabulous option for letting in as much light as possible, and of course, they look amazing too! The only possible con is if you want to be able to open up your door fully, bifold doors may be a better option for you.
