guide to roof lights

What style of rooflights are available?

There are two main types of rooflights – pitched and flat, and here at Kloeber we supply both!

Pitched rooflights: Our pitched rooflights are designed to add both light and height to a room, creating a larger sense of space. Further options are also available with our pitched rooflights, including opening vents to allow heat out of the roof and to help with airflow. Vents can be fitted with either hand-operated winders or electric motors.  The electric options can be fitted with a simple manual switch or a digital control panel with rain sensor and thermostat to automatically open and close your roof to suit the weather conditions!

Flat rooflights: Our flat rooflights are designed for flat roofs, maximising the natural daylight and adding warmth. They’re super sleek, minimalist, and, the aluminium outer frame complements all flat roof finishes including high performance felt, lead, zinc and synthetic roof coverings.

What material are your rooflights made from?

All of our rooflights are made with recyclable aluminum, also know as the ‘green metal’ thanks to its eco-friendly nature. It’s durable, strong and a great insulator! We discuss the benefits of aluminum here.

What colour are your rooflights available in?

You can go wild, because our bespoke pitched rooflights are available in any RAL colour! There is also the chance to select our dual colour option too, so you can match your rooflight with your interior colour scheme. Our fixed flat rooflight is finished in standard RAL 7016 Anthracite Grey.

Where can I install a rooflight?

The installation of rooflights will largely be affected by certain elements in your home such as electrics, as well as any beams or even structural limitations. These will need to be considered when deciding on the best position for your rooflights. If you’re a self-builder or undertaking renovations, you can also take into account the positioning of your rooflights vs. the direction of the sun to enjoy them to their full potential.

Are rooflights energy efficient?

The good news is, we offer one of the most thermally efficient pitched rooflight systems available on the market! Boasting fully thermally-broken extruded aluminium profiles, they reduce the transfer of heat from the outside to the inside. We also offer both double and triple glazing with our pitched rooflights.

Are rooflights expensive?

Rooflights are a surprisingly affordable way to totally transform your property! However, as all of our rooflights are bespoke and made-to-measure, the cost will vary from project to project. For a quote, please get in touch with a member of our team who will gladly assist.

We also have a NEW flexible finance offer which you can find out more about HERE.

Do I need planning permission for rooflights?

Generally, you do not need to apply for planning permission to install rooflights in your home, but there are a few instances where it may need to be obtained for example if you live in a listed building or in an area of conservation. If either of these apply, it’s best to double-check with your local authority before committing.

Are rooflights right for my property?

If you want to create a light and airy living space then the answer is…absolutely, yes! There are really no downsides to installing rooflights, they’re a wonderful feature and can really elevate your home. They look fabulous in both period and modern properties too.
