Why do we offer such a range of different materials?  Well, the term ‘horses for courses’ springs to mind as each project requires different boxes to be ticked by a doors and windows glazing package, and we’re specialists in all three too!

Each material choice has its perceived strengths that will be relevant to the type of project you’re undertaking, whether that’s a self-build, home renovation or improvement. So when we provide you with a quote, one of the first questions we’ll ask you is: “timber, aluminium or alu-clad?’ Your answer will form the basis of our quotation but, if you’re unsure, we can talk you through the material choices, and which one might be best for your doors and windows.

Here's a quick run through of our material options:

Timber

TIMBER has great insulation properties to keep the warm in and the cold out, which makes it a great choice for doors and windows used in eco extensions and new builds. It’s also more traditional in style meaning it tends to suit period properties best, but it can also be used for more modern projects too as it can create a beautiful focal point, as in this home.

We use engineered timber at Kloeber, and the options available include pine, meranti and oak - each of which achieves a minimum density and a specific moisture content to guarantee the correct strength and longevity of the material.

What is engineered timber? This term is used to describe the manufacturing process of the solid timber sections that feature in each one of our timber products, and the manufacturing process includes taking smaller strips of solid timber that are laminated and glued together to form larger sections. These are then cut and machined to size resulting in a stronger, more stable and better quality timber - compared to normal timber. All the timber that we use is also FSC® certified (FSC® C101873).

Aluminium

ALUMINIUM is another great material to use for your projects' doors and windows. It’s sleek appearance, slim sightlines and consistent surface finish are all elements that lend it to be used for more contemporary self-builds, home renovations and improvements. However it can also, very successfully, be used on period properties to create an effective contrast - as seen in this thatched cottage extension.

All of the aluminium profiles we use are thermally broken by a Polyamide plastic insert, which separates the internal and external aluminium parts to avoid condensation and increase its insulating properties. Aluminium is also extremely durable and low maintenance due to its powder-coated finish, which can be accomplished in a huge range of RAL colours.

When choosing Kloeber as your supplier, you can pick aluminium for your:

  • Front/entrance doors
  • Sliding doors
  • Bifold doors
  • French and single doors
  • Casement windows
  • Tilt and turn windows
  • Fixed glazing

Alu-clad

ALU-CLAD doors and windows are a combination of a timber interior with an aluminium exterior. This material brings together the great U-Values that timber achieves with all the benefits of external powder-coated aluminium. They also give you a contemporary external aesthetic whilst bringing warmth and softness to the inside of your home - a fantastic choice as it gives you the best of both worlds rolled into one.

As with aluminium, this material is best suited to modern properties, but it can also add a contemporary twist to a more traditional home, and an added bonus of our alu-clad doors and windows is, they are dual colour, so they can match the style and design of both the outside and inside of your self-build, home renovation or improvement project.

When choosing Kloeber as your supplier, you can pick alu-clad for your:

  • Sliding doors
  • French and single doors
  • Casement windows
  • Tilt and turn windows
  • Fixed glazing
